Corporate Port Restrictions

www.majzel.com com is hosted at a local Internet Provider but it has links to our companion site  maben.homeip.net that is hosted privately.  maben.homeip.net now also responds to port 80 so it should be corporately accessible.  In the past it broadcast on port 8217 and for legacy reasons it continues to do so.

Problems rendering or playing videos

I would strongly recommend the VLC Player  as practically the only video or audio player you need on your Windows system.  Try this

  • Install VLC on your windows  (on MAC) platform
  • Use it to play all your music and videos  (even flash and quicktime)
  • If there is anything it wont play use the native application
  • ELSE,  delete the native application.
  • For example,  after learning how to play .MP3 audio files with VLC I deleted Winamp, and it plays .wmv so I deleted Windows Media Player (or renamed the binary).  Practically the only "native" player I have installed is RealPlayer, and well then in fact this is now replaced with  The Real Alternative

Once VLC is installed you may need to tell Windows how to use it to load your applications.  For example to tell it to use VLC to play Flash Video files  (i.e. all files from YouTube)  thus:
