Configuration of your ultimate bicycle

Build that Dream Cycle

Well on Sunday 12th June 2005 I smoozed around Lake Geneva on a cycle race www.cyclotour.ch .  I had just under 6 hours to deliberate how a custom built cycle would improve my enjoyment.  So how would I construct such a cycle?

Luckily I know of a proprietary tool that you can use to build your dream cycle.  it's a bicycle configurator from ribble.   The configurator tries to check what components fit together and their website includes weights of each component so your can choose suitably lightweight componentry. Here is how to proceed

  • Logon to ribble
  • Create a userid with password.  This will allow you to save your configuration for later editing.
  • Do the preparatory work which is really considering what framesize you need.  Ideally measure the size of your existing cycle if it is just right.  And cross check it with the Ribble guide here
  • Start the configurator with the frame

Here are some pointers on your build

Super lightweight frames  (less than 1000g for competition use migh not survivie continued road usage.

Upgrading your groupset  (e.g. adding a Campag Chorus carbon groupset) can dramatically increase the cost of your bicycle.

And here is the result,  a super lightweight custom cycle for just under 1000 GBP.  Can't say fairer than that.
